Ha Giang Loop and Cao Bang Tours: The Best Motorbike Adventure

The Ultimate Ha Giang Loop and Cao Bang Tour

Most travelers visiting northern Vietnam have heard about the legendary Ha Giang Loop.

This mountain road adventure has become one of the most famous experiences in Southeast Asia, attracting travelers looking for dramatic landscapes, cultural experiences, and unforgettable motorbike journeys. But what many people don’t realize is that the adventure can continue far beyond the loop.

At Ha Giang Safari, we offer combined Ha Giang Loop and Cao Bang tours to connect the iconic Ha Giang Loop with the hidden natural beauty of Cao Bằng.

This journey allows travelers to experience two of the most spectacular regions in northern Vietnam in one adventure.

Why Extend the Ha Giang Loop to Cao Bang?

The classic Ha Giang Loop is incredible, but if you’ve already made the journey this far, you might as well see beyond the loop! Cao Bằng remains one of the most beautiful and least visited regions in Vietnam.

We created this tour for travelers who want to experience more. By combining these two regions, our tours offer both adventure and peaceful natural beauty.

“Ha Giang is for those looking to find themselves.
Cao Bang is for those looking to heal.”

We offer three different tour lengths depending on your travel schedule.

All tours start in Ha Giang City and finish in Cao Bang, following a route that very few travelers take.

This tour moves FAST and is only recommended if you are on a TIGHT schedule!

5 Days / 4 Nights Combo Tour (Most Popular!)

Our recommended tour. This option gives enough time to experience the highlights of both regions without rushing.

6 Days / 5 Nights Combo Tour

This is the longest tour we offer. It’s the fully extended adventure with extra time to explore hidden landscapes and remote villages.

Small Group Tours (Maximum 12 People)

At Ha Giang Safari, we focus on intentional small group experiences.

Each special tour is limited to 12 travelers, allowing for a more relaxed and personal journey.

You’ll start your journey with other Safari groups doing the classic Ha Giang Loop then split off to explore Cao Bang.

This approach allows us to:

  • explore hidden viewpoints
  • travel at a comfortable pace
  • connect with local communities
  • create a more authentic experience

As a woman-owned, family-run company, we believe travel should feel personal and meaningful.

Travel Tips for the Ha Giang and Cao Bang Tour

Great! You’ve decided to join us for a combo tour, but now how do you prepare for it?

From experience, here is exactly what to know before heading for the road.

Pack Layers and Comfortable Clothes

Mountain weather can change quickly and you’ll be driving more to explore both areas.

We can’t predict the weather, but we can help you prepare for anything.

Despite being relatively next to each other, both places can have distinct weather differences.

Your butt WILL be sore, so make sure to pack comfy clothes!

Bring Good Shoes

You’ll explore caves, waterfalls, and villages.

A sturdy pair of shoes that can handle all terrain is recommended.

Charge Your Camera

Northern Vietnam has some of the most photogenic landscapes in Southeast Asia.

We recommend keeping your camera safely in your bag while driving to avoid any potential damage while on the motorbike.

Prepare Your Toiletries

Bring tissue, hand sanitizer, and ladies, you’ll want to bring any feminine products with you ahead of time.

Expect to see a toilet (and hole in the floor) with a view, questionable privacy doors, and less coffee viewpoint stops in Cao Bang.

It’s all part of the experience, but that’s what makes it exciting, right?

Drink Plenty of Water and Rest

This tour is longer than the typical 3-day and 4-day Ha Giang Loop Tour.

Make sure to rest your body as you travel from place to place.

Being on a motorbike is more exhausting than you think, but the views and experiences make it all worth it!

Visit Before Everyone Else

Cao Bang is still relatively undiscovered, but it most likely won’t stay that way forever.

NOW in 2026 is the time to go.

And why not if you’re already here? 🙂

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you visit Ban Gioc Waterfall from the Ha Giang Loop Tour?

Most tours do not include it. Our combo tours continue into Cao Bang so travelers will visit the waterfall.

How many days do you need for the Ha Giang and Cao Bang Tour?

Our tours range from 4–6 days, but the 5 day tour is the best balance.

Is the Ha Giang Loop crowded?

Compared to Cao Bang, YES. The Ha Giang Loop can be crowded, especially during the high seasons.

The first high season of the Ha Giang Loop is March to April for peach and plum blossoms.

The second high season is September to November for golden rice and buckwheat flowers.

But once you continue into Cao Bang, the crowds disappear and the landscape becomes much quieter.
